Be Alert - Stay Focused - Stay Informed - Keep Safe

This year’s theme, "Work Zones Need Your Undivided Attention" reminds drivers to put aside distractions, be alert, and stay informed when driving through work zones. In 2009, 17 motorists were killed and 767 injured in 1,278 motor vehicle collisions in work zones statewide, sadly marking the highest number of injuries, third highest number of fatalities and the greatest number of work zone collisions in any previous year. A majority of these fatalities and injuries were caused by inattentive driving, following too closely and speeding in construction zones. In order to reduce fatalities and injuries, motorists must remember to set aside distractions, be extra cautious and give work zones their undivided attention when traveling.
