ACCOUNT FEDERATION

Beginning July 1st, 2021 Internal Users were required to login to ProjectWise using a “Federated” identity.  It is preferred that External Users use Federation, but not required to access ODOT’s datasource in ProjectWise.  Instead of using a separate user name and password configuration to login to ProjectWise, the user only needs to know their Bentley Account information.  ODOT encourages organizations to leverage their organization IT infrastructure to manage user credentials for Bentley products and services.  As the user signs into the Bentley Connection Client, Bentley’s Identity Management System (IMS) trusts your identity provider to validate the user’s credentials.

For more information on getting your organization federated with Bentley, please see the following link: Federation – Setting Up A Federated Identity For Your Enterprise

External user account types have the ability to be federated, and the email address for that specific account will be used instead of the normal username and password requirements.  Example:  If the account username was “firstname.lastname”, the account username will become that specific users email address.   The original password chosen by the user will be removed and ProjectWise will authenticate the user through Bentley’s Connection Client.  In the login window for ProjectWise the Authentication dropdown will need to change to Bentley IMS.

INFORMATION ON BENTLEY CONNECTION CLIENT

Signing into the CONNECTION Client is a prerequisite to participate in CONNECT capabilities provided through your Bentley desktop applications (CONNECT Edition). The connection client licenses the CONNECT software you use, and is your source to sign into ProjectWise.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON FEDERATION

If your organization is not federated, the user must at the very least have a Bentley account set up within the Bentley Subscription Services Portal.  For more information, please see:
