Figure 2G-2. Examples of Intersection Approach Signs and Advance
Signs for Tourist-Oriented Directional Signs
This figure illustrates examples of intersection approach signs
and advance signs for tourist-oriented directional signs.
The illustration shows the approaches to an intersection of segments
of a vertical and a horizontal two-lane roadway with one lane of
traffic in each direction. The opposing lanes are shown separated
by solid double yellow lines. Solid white stop lines are shown across
the approach lanes of the horizontal roadway. The direction of travel
is from the bottom to the top of the figure. Two notes are shown
at the bottom of the figure: "(1) Optional Message" and
"(2) Use if there is an intervening road."
On the right side of the roadway on the vertical roadway, a series
of four rectangular blue signs with white borders and legends are
shown.
At the bottom of the figure, farthest from the intersection, a
sign is shown with four vertically stacked panels, the topmost of
which is shown with the words "TOURIST ACTIVITIES." To
the right of this panel, the notation (1) is shown. Below the top
panel, three panels are shown with the words "NEXT LEFT,"
"STEWARD'S JET BOATS," and "DICK & HARRY'S TROUT
FARM," respectively. To the right of this sign, the word "OR"
is shown and another sign. This sign is shown to be identical except
that the second panel has the words "LEFT ½ MILE"
instead of "NEXT LEFT." To the right of this panel, the
notation (2) is shown.
Another sign is shown at a dimensioned distance of 150 m (500 ft)
MIN beyond the first sign. This sign and the first sign are labeled
"ADVANCE SIGN LOCATIONS (Special Circumstances Only)."
This sign is shown with four vertically stacked panels, the topmost
of which is shown with the words "TOURIST ACTIVITIES."
To the right of this panel, the notation (1) is shown. Below the
top panel, three panels are shown with the words "NEXT RIGHT,"
"MYRTLEWOOD GIFT SHOP," and "GREENFOREST ORCHARD,"
respectively. To the right of this sign, the word "OR"
is shown and another sign. This sign is shown to be identical except
that the second panel has the words "RIGHT 1 km" instead
of "NEXT RIGHT." To the right of this panel, the notation
(2) is shown.
The sign next closest to the intersection is shown with three vertically
stacked panels, the topmost of which is shown with the words "TOURIST
ACTIVITIES." To the right of this panel, the notation (1) is
shown. Below that, a panel is shown with a left-pointing horizontal
arrow above the numeral "1," a vertical white line, and
the words "STEWARD'S JET BOATS." Below that, a panel is
shown with a left-pointing horizontal arrow above the numeral "3,"
a vertical white line, and the words "DICK & HARRY'S TROUT
FARM."
The sign closest to the intersection is shown at a dimensioned
distance of 60 m (200 ft) MIN beyond the previous sign and 60 m
(200 ft) MIN in advance of the intersection. The sign is shown with
three vertically stacked panels, the topmost of which is shown with
the words "TOURIST ACTIVITIES." To the right of this panel,
the notation (1) is shown. Below that, a panel is shown with the
words "MYRTLEWOOD GIFT SHOP," a vertical white line, and
a right-pointing horizontal arrow above the numeral "1."
Below that, a panel is shown with the words "GREENFOREST ORCHARD,"
a vertical white line, and a right-pointing horizontal arrow above
the numeral "3."
