POSTED JUNE 9, 2003 The 1999 English Standard Specifications for Highway Construction has been approved for printing and distribution and Roadway Design is submitting the following list and summary of changes for each of the new, revised or reissued 1999 English Roadway Standard Drawings for your review. The page or sheet number is shown in the second column under the heading 'SHEET NO' for each standard. The old and new design numbers are shown in the third and fourth field or column under the heading 'PREVIOUS and NEW STATUS' (as it appears in the lower right hand corner of the standard drawing title block). And finally, the last field shows whether the standard is new or just revised. Even though great effort has been taken to check and recheck these sheets for technical and grammatical errors, there still may be some corrections required to tweak these sheets. If you find any errors or omissions that you feel should be addressed, please contact Larry Curts in Roadway Division and 521-6759. All suggestions will be handled as soon as possible. We appreciate all your help. ******************************************************************** ******************************************************************** This is the list of English and Metric Roadway standards that have been reviewed, revised and become effective June 9, 2003. Even though the note that says driveways are to be paid for as Concrete Driveway, Class A Concrete was still being used as the pay item because no pay item for Concrete Driveway was listed in the Basis Of Pay block. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-126E (ENGLISH) - Cast In Place Median Barrier Old Revision Designation: MB-3-02E New Revision Designation: MB 3-03E Sheet No. R-126M (METRIC) - Cast In Place Median Barrier Old Revision Designation: MB-3-02M New Revision Designation: MB 3-03M The Cast In Place Median Barrier standard had been reviewed for the better part of two years and had been released 11/1/02 with an updated design, which included a new 42 inch height and a more upright geometry. It was further reviewed and a decision was made to make the wall wider at the top, from 8 inches to 9 inches, but maintain the same physical shape. As a result, the overall width at the bottom was increased from 24 inches to 25 inches. The quantities for this increased design required that the details, tables and values be updated. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-139E (ENGLISH) - Thrie Beam Transition Unit Old Revision Designation: TBTU-2-01E New Revision Designation: TBTU 2-02E Sheet No. R-139M (METRIC) - Thrie Beam Transition Unit Old Revision Designation: TBTU-2-01M New Revision Designation: TBTU-2-02M This standard has been mistakenly used when projects required a standard for the attachment of guardrail to parapets at the end of bridges. Two notes have been added to clarify the proper use of this standard. The main purpose of this standard is when a special need for a Thrie Beam rail is required at a unique location on the roadway. This standard shows construction particulars and details the components needed when W-Beam guardrail has to transition to a Thrie Beam system and then back down to a W-Beam system. Also, a dimension on the Thrie Beam End Shoe detail was shown to be 4" (100 mm) and it was changed to the correct dimension of 8" (200 mm). *********************************************************************** *********************************************************************** Previous Submittal Of Revised Standards Dated November 1, 2002 *********************************************************************** The following O.D.O.T. Sheet No. R-98E (ENGLISH) - Wheelchair Ramp Old Revision Designation: WCR-2-00E New Revision Designation: WCR-2-01E Sheet No. R-98M (METRIC) - Wheelchair Ramp Old Revision Designation: WCR-2-00M New Revision Designation: WCR-2-01M The ADA is constantly adding more and more restrictions to estab- lished construction practices. The revisions to this Wheelchair Ramp standard include adding tactile warning bumps to detail draw- ings on the sheet that depict the different cross-walks and pedes- trian access ramps. The specifications and dimensions of these 'bumps' are shown at the bottom of the standard sheet near the middle of the sheet. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-105E (ENGLISH) - Rumble Strips Old Revision Designation: RS1-2-01E New Revision Designation: RS1-2-02E Sheet No. R-105M (METRIC) - Rumble Strips Old Revision Designation: RS1-2-01M New Revision Designation: RS1-2-02M Rumble strips used to be constructed by rolling depressions into recently laid asphalt shoulders, but new policies have been made that require only milled in rumble strips. It has been found that milled in rumble strips when placed too near longitudinal and transverse joints in concrete pavement can produce unwanted cracks. Also, milled in rumble strips create a depression where water can stand and add to the potential for water to soak into the surface. Two notes have been added to the general notes that restrict the placement of milled in rumble strips in concrete pavements and shoulders and a note to add a surface treatment where milled in strips have been cut. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-106E (ENGLISH) - Rumble Strip Old Revision Designation: RS2-2-01E New Revision Designation: RS2-2-02E Sheet No. R-106M (METRIC) - Rumble Strip Old Revision Designation: RS2-2-01M New Revision Designation: RS2-2-02M Rumble strips used to be constructed by rolling depressions into recently laid asphalt shoulders, but new policies have been made that require only milled in rumble strips. R-112E (ENGLISH) - Right-Of-Way Fence Style-CLF Chain Link Fence Old Revision Designation: RWF3-1-00E New Revision Designation: RWF3 1-01E No Metric Sheet Changes (METRIC) There was a simple typo in the title block of this English standard and was corrected in this revision. The units of 'mm' was replaced with 'FT' as units for the height of the fence. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-120E (ENGLISH) - Load Transfer Units For Concrete Pavement Joints Old Revision Designation: LTU-3-00E New Revision Designation: LTU 3-01E Sheet No. R-120M (METRIC) - Load Transfer Units For Concrete Pavement Joints Old Revision Designation: LTU-3-00M New Revision Designation: LTU-3-01M In the DOWEL BARS table, located in the upper right corner of the sheet, the slab depth values have been revised. The original 8" to 11" and 12" to 16" has been restated to 8" to 10" and 11" to 16". The metric values on the metric standard were also changed. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-126E (ENGLISH) - Cast-In-Place Median Barrier Old Revision Designation: MB-3-01E New Revision Designation: MB 3-02E Sheet No. R-126M (METRIC) - Cast-In-Place Median Barrier Old Revision Designation: MB-3-01M New Revision Designation: MB-3-02M A major shift has taken place in the safety aspects of cast-in- place and temporary median barriers. The old and current New Jersey shape has been used for some time now and safety problems still exist. The shape of the barrier has been changed to the F-Shape, basically the New Jersey shape, only taller and more straight up and down. The detail drawings on this standard have been redrawn to scale and depict the F-Shape throughout the sheet. Additionally, when a grade separation is required, reinforcing steel has been added to the Design 1-A. The corresponding table of quantities has been updated to show the new values of concrete and steel based on the new shape of the barrier. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-134E (ENGLISH) - Guardrail Hardware Old Revision Designation: GRH-3-00E New Revision Designation: GRH 3-01E Sheet No. R-134M (METRIC) - Guardrail Hardware Old Revision Designation: GRH-3-00M New Revision Designation: GRH-3-01M Several new and existing companies are engineering and developing guardrail hardware that passes NCHRP 350, test level 3, crash tests. They have approached the national DOT's for permission to use these alternative components, now that they have successfully passed the crash tests. In the upper left hand corner of the sheet, the paragraph and title covering OPTIONAL TYPE POSTS OR BLOCKOUTS FOR STANDARD LINE GUARDRAIL has been altered to restate requirements for the use of these substitute components and materials. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-139E (ENGLISH) - Thrie Beam Transition Unit Old Revision Designation: TBTU-2-00E New Revision Designation: TBTU 2-01E Sheet No. R-139M (METRIC) - Thrie Beam Transition Unit Old Revision Designation: TBTU-2-00M New Revision Designation: TBTU-2-01M A request was made to include the gage metal value for each of the Thrie Beam components shown on the sheet, so in the lower left hand corner of the sheet, the gage of the section was added to the detail. No other changes were made to the standard. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-141E (ENGLISH) - Safety Grated Wingwall For Single Cell Reinforced Concrete Box Old Revision Designation: SCGW-2-00E New Revision Designation: SCGW 2-01E Sheet No. R-141M (METRIC) - Safety Grated Wingwall For Single Cell Reinforced Concrete Box Old Revision Designation: SCGW-2-00M New Revision Designation: SCGW-2-01M A request was made to show the dimensions of the headwall curb in the SIDE VIEW OF HEADWALL detail at the center bottom of the sheet. The width of this curb is dependent on the height of the curb. The shorter curb calls for the more narrow curb and the higher the curb the wider the curb. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-142E (ENGLISH) - Safety Grated Wingwall For Multi-Cell Reinforced Concrete Box Old Revision Designation: SCGW-2-00E New Revision Designation: SCGW 2-01E Sheet No. R-142M (METRIC) - Safety Grated Wingwall For Multi-Cell Reinforced Concrete Box Old Revision Designation: SCGW-2-00M New Revision Designation: SCGW-2-01M A request was made to show the dimensions of the headwall curb in the SIDE VIEW OF HEADWALL detail at the center bottom of the sheet. The width of this curb is dependent on the height of the curb. The shorter curb calls for the more narrow curb and the higher the curb the wider the curb. ************************************************************************* Sheet No. R-143E (ENGLISH) - Bridge Guardrail Connection Thrie Beam Transition-Type A New Standard New Revision Designation: BGC1 1-00E Sheet No. R-143M (METRIC) - Bridge Guardrail Connection Thrie Beam Transition-Type A New Standard New Revision Designation: BGC1-1-00M New regulations have been adopted that requires a 42" F-Shape con- crete bridge rail on some Oklahoma bridges. The current Roadway Standards did not have a standard that would cover a transition connection of this type, so this new standard will serve to provide those construction details. The transition will include the hard- ware necessary to transition from a 27" W-Beam line guardrail to a thrie beam transition section to a 32" high thrie beam guardrail section, 12'-6" long, and finally details showing the final connec- tion of the full height thrie beam section to the bridge rail. Bridge Division has designed a concrete transition that would taper down from the 42" bridge rail height to the full height 32" thrie beam guardrail section. ****************************************************************** ****************************************************************** The following table is the original summary of changes when the new 1999 Specifications went into effect. 1999 ENGLISH/METRIC STANDARD DRAWINGS SUMMARY OF CHANGES - 9/1/99 Concurrent with the release of the new 1999 Standard Specifications _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | SHEET | DESIGN | | | NO. | NUMBER | C H A N G E S & C O M M E N T S | |_____________________________________________________________________________| | 46 | CDI-2-13 | REMOVE HANDRAIL, REDUCE WALL THICKNESS FROM | | R-46E | CDI1-1-00E | 9" to 8", CHANGE STEEL CONFIGURATION. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| | 47 | CDI-2S1-13 | REMOVE HANDRAIL, REDUCE WALL THICKNESS FROM | | R-47E | CDI2-1-00E | 9" to 8", CHANGE STEEL CONFIGURATION. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| | 48 | CDI-2S2-13 | REMOVE HANDRAIL, REDUCE WALL THICKNESS FROM | | R-48E | CDI3-1-00E | 9" to 8", CHANGE STEEL CONFIGURATION. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| | 49 | CBDI-1-15 | RECOMMENDED TO DISCONTINUE THIS STANDARD | | 50 | CBDI-1S3L&R-12 | RECOMMENDED TO DISCONTINUE THIS STANDARD | |_____________________________________________________________________________| | 53 | RCB-2H-1 | ADD COLUMN FOR ADDITIONAL DEPTH OF CURTAIN | | R-53E | RCB2H-1-00E | WALL, ADD J BARS IN CURTAIN WALL. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| | 54 | RCB-1B-4 | THIS STANDARD SHEET IS BEING REPLACED WITH 3 | | | | STANDARD SHEETS NUMBERED R-54AE, R-54BE & R-54CE. | | R-54AE| RCB1-1-00E | SHEETS R-54AE & R-54BE COVER DESIGN DATA FOR | | R-54BE| RCB2-1-00E | EACH OF THE 101 BOX TYPES.
