README (POSTED JUNE 9, 2003) MICROSTATION BASED STANDARD DRAWINGS The following O.D.O.T. Metric and English Roadway Standards, having the sheet number format of R-XXXE & R-XXXM, respectively, have been placed on this website only as MicroStation (*.dgn) drawings. Roadway Design Division of the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation is submitting the following five (8) English and six (10) Metric revised Roadway Standard Drawings, as shown on the lists below, for use in all future construction projects. These lists of revised standards should be used to update your current indexes of English and Metric Roadway Standards and will become effective June 9, 2003. These revised standards have been signed and approved for use in all future construction projects that require English or Metric Roadway Standard sheets. *************************************************************** *************************************************************** NOTICE: FREE VIEWER FOR MICROSTATION DESIGN FILES *************************************************************** *************************************************************** A MicroStation program/application is required to view MicroStation design (.dgn) files OR an AutoCad program/application is required to view AutoCad (.dwg) files. For companies/individuals without licensed programs that can view these type of files, a free viewer can be downloaded from Bentley and then installed on your computer so that AutoCad or MicroStation files can be read and viewed. The weblink at Bentley is as follows: http://www.bentley.com click on Products click on MicroStation click on Bentley View click on Download Bentley View The file that contains the Viewer is 58 Megabytes and will take a long time to download using a 56K modem. Users with high speed equipment will find no problems downloading this file. ************************************************************ WARNING: This free viewer WILL NOT WORK on a machine that already has a MicroStation application installed. Not only will the free viewer not work, but the installed MicroStation program will quit working. ************************************************************ After the file is copied to your computer, an additional font resource file must be copied to the directory where this Bentley Viewer program is installed. The name of the resource file is newfont.res and can be obtained from the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation website at the following weblink address: http://www.odot.org/cnstinfo/roadway99/newfont.res or http://www.okladot.state.us/cnstinfo/roadway99/newfont.res Once the Bentley View program is installed and the newfont.res resourse file is downloaded, then copy the newfont.res file into the following directory structure: C:\Program Files\Bentley\Workspace\system\symb\newfont.res After the Bentley Viewer program and the newfont.res file is installed, MicroStation or AutoCad files should be able to be loaded and viewed. ************************************************************** ************************************************************** This is the list of English and Metric Roadway standards that have been reviewed, revised and become effective June 9, 2003. First, the drawings were created on a 2D drawing file and used levels 1, 25 and 35. Level 1 contained all the drawing text and linework while level 25 contained the title block information. Level 35 contained the detail block information. Second, very few colors were used, with green and blue being the primary colors, red used for borders and title block text and anything highlighted in yellow reflects changes to the drawing. Third, only two fonts were used, with font003 used for drawing text and font007 used in the title block. Fourth, the line weights were kept to 0, 1 and 2 for text and line work. There may be some lines with line weight 3, but very few, if any. Fifth, dimensions, extension lines, leader arrowheads and dimension text were NOT created using the MicroStation dimension utility but were placed individually with traditional lines and custom arrowheads. MICROSTATION STANDARD DRAWINGS The MicroStation drawings (*.dgn ) were transferred to the web site 'as is' and will require some font styles and special cells that are not included with the stock MicroStation installation. We have included select resource files (*.rsc ) and a cell library (*.cel ) that can be downloaded and placed into specific subdirectories in order for your downloaded standard drawings to look exactly like the shelf versions found at the O.D.O.T. AUTOCAD FILE FORMAT FOR ROADWAY STANDARD DRAWINGS AutoCad file format for the Microstation posted files can be accessed by going to the following link and using the page number and .dwg extension to find the drawing==>http://www.odot.org/cnstinfo/roadway99. MICROSTATION STANDARD DRAWING CELL LIBRARIES The file 'rdystds.cel' must be placed into the MicroStation directory structure as follows: ===>c:\ustation\wsmod\default\cell\rdystds.cel (If the hard drive location for MicroStation is different from 'C:\ustation\. . . .' then you would adjust the path accordingly. ) MICROSTATION STANDARD DRAWING RESOURCE LIBRARIES The files 'newfont.rsc' and 'roadway.rsc' must be placed into the MicroStation directory structure as follows: ===>c:\ustation\wsmod\default\symb\newfont.rsc ===>c:\ustation\wsmod\default\symb\roadway.rsc The 'newfont.rsc' file contains the font libraries used by the ODOT design staff in preparing virtually all the plan drawings and the 'roadway.rsc' file contains the line types and styles. MICROSTATION STANDARD DRAWING SEED FILES In addition to the MicroStation font libraries and line styles, a working blank copy of each type of English and Metric drawing is included for downloading and listed below. These sheets represent all of the typical types of title, summary, detail and p & p sheets. There is just over 1.2 megabytes of data contained in the seed files listed below. When MicroStation drawings are loaded and font styles or cell libraries are sought, the routine looks in each available resource library and keeps looking until it finds the named file. When the required file is not found, a default linestyle, cell or font is assigned. By adding these new libraries to the list, the correct cell, linestyle or font will be made available and obtained. The Metric & English Roadway Standard Drawing files contained on this website will be maintained in the same time frame as all future revised standards are placed in circulation and provided to Reproduction Ser- vices for contracts and plan sets. As standard drawings are revised or become discontinued, they will be available from Reproduction Ser- vices and will not be available through this website. Only the current, on the shelf, version of the Roadway Standard Drawings will be listed and downloadable from this website.
