SUBJECT:The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) proposes to improve US-259 from Idabel to 2 miles north of the Red River Bridge at the Oklahoma – Texas border. The existing US-259 has narrow shoulders, sharp curves, and an inadequate safety sight distance for motorists that all contribute to a substantial accident history. ODOT recently tasked a Consultant to study several alternatives to improve US-259 while taking into consideration construction cost, right-of-way requirements and environmental constraints. The purpose of the meeting is to present these alternatives to the public and get input to aid ODOT in selecting a preferred alternative to move forward with design and construction. |
