Project OverviewThe stretch of I-44 between Riverside Dr. and Yale Ave. in Tulsa is one of the oldest sections of interstate in Oklahoma. (In fact, it was built before the creation of the Interstate System in 1956!) The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is working to widen this area from four lanes to six, and to improve the intersections at Riverside Dr., Peoria Ave., Lewis Ave. and Harvard Ave. The first construction phase of the project will be in the Perryman Ditch area, on the north side of I-44 between Riverside Dr. and Yorktown Ave. During this phase, crews will build a 1.25 mile long concrete drainage structure 30 feet underground, along with a frontage road. This will serve as a major drainage structure for this corridor, and this phase must be started before any widening work on I-44 can begin. The next construction phase of the overall project will be in the area of Harvard Ave., which is tentatively scheduled to bid in 2009. This will be followed by the Riverside/Peoria corridor bid, tentatively scheduled for 2010, and the Lewis Ave. corridor, tentatively scheduled for bid in 2011. The overall project $360 million project is expected to be complete in 2012. |
